Record Facebook Messenger Calls: Step-by-step Guide

There are many valuable moments in daily chats with friends and loved ones you want to capture. Facebook lets you make free audio and video calls with your friends from their website. If you prefer making video calls on your computer here is the guide on how to start recording your messenger calls easily:

facebook messenger recorder

  1. You can start by clicking on the Callnote desktop icon and by adjusting the settings in Recording Options -> Facebook tab.
  2. After you’ve adjusted the settings for the screen recording session, you can start a video call on Facebook. We would recommend you to use Chrome or Firefox browser to access to either Facebook’s desktop website or their messaging app called Messenger. Make sure that your webcam and microphone are properly plugged in and working. If you’re using your web browser for the Facebook call, pop-up blockers might interfere with the call, and unless you’ve enabled your browser to access your cam and mic, the other person will not be able to see or hear you.
  3. Start the call and then simply hit the Record button on the appeared Callnote widget to start capturing audio, video, and pictures from the screen. Callnote records your screen as you see it during the call. Pause or stop recording at any moment by clicking on the appropriate buttons. Callnote doesn’t have any recording time limitation, at the same time please mind that with pressing the Stop/Start button the recording will resume with the new file saved in your Library.
  4. Once the recording is complete, the audio and video file are saved in Library.  So the messenger call can be edited, saved, forwarded or transcribed. Recorded audios are saved as mp3 files, and videos are saved in Library as MP4 file, which would be easy to playback on any video player.
  • In-built audio and video editors offer cutting and trimming tools, as well as a rich selection of annotations.
  • A wide range of integrated Clouds makes it easy to export the recording, post it on your Facebook page or YouTube channel. Go to Sharing Options Tab to set up the forwarding.
  • In-built automated transcription service allows transcribing your audio file to text in just a few minutes. Generated texts can be used as captions while posting the recorded video on Facebook.
  • Try also our emotion recognition tool which can detect smiles, surprise, dislike, attention, and drowsiness. So, you can see the conversation emotional results displayed in graphical format.

Callnote is your best way to capture Facebook messenger video calls on Mac and Windows desktops. Try it today with our Regular free package or upgrade to Premium or Pro to get access to HD recordings, editing, and transcription features.

How to Set up Automatic Export to the Clouds

Once Callnote stops recording your audio or video meeting it saves the recording locally on your computer. You can view and manage all recordings in the recordings library. There you can sort recordings in your feed by date, timeframe, participants. You can add tags and notes to your clips to quickly remember and retrieve them for future use. Callnote video recorder has a handy set of inbuilt editing tools to polish the recorded audio or video. Once you’ve done with editing your recordings, you may want to export them to one of the integrated clouds, to post them in social media or to email them.

With Callnote you can instantly send your recorded content – video and audio files, chats and snaps, transcribed text and subtitles.

To set up automatic sharing:

  1. Open the app, go to Sharing Options tab and select a destination. Callnote Regular users have the option to export the files to Dropbox. Callnote Premium users have a more extended list of destinations including Evernote, Facebook, YouTube, and Gmail. And Pro users have the full stack of options with OneDrive, GDrive sharing available.
  2. If you choose Dropbox, for example, click on the Dropbox icon. Click Connect and your Dropbox account login page will be opened in the browser. Please login and click OK when the Dropbox account page is opened in your browser.
  3. Once you’re connected you can select:
  • Upload your recordings automatically
  • Confirm forwarding before sharing
  • Select which types of recordings to share

The principle is the same for Evernote, YouTube, Facebook, GDrive, OneDrive, and email sharing.

Sharing Clouds

4. Once you set up forwarding, please go to the Library tab to select the recording and click on one of the Sharing buttons.

Please note: Uploading files longer than 15 minutes might require updating your YouTube account.

Sharing Exporting Forwarding

In case you are having some issues with forwarding, we suggest:

  • checking your privacy settings in the destination account,
  • disconnecting and connecting the destination once again.

Record Zoom Meetings as a Participant on PC and Mac

Zoom is a great tool for video conferencing, group chats and business collaboration. By default, only the host can initiate recording in Zoom. If another participant would like to record, the host will need to provide permission to that participant during the meeting.

Now with Callnote video recorder you can capture Zoom meeting you’re attending even without the host’s permission or acknowledgment. Callnote records both audio (in mp3 format), video (in mp4 format) streams, as well as instant messages in a conference, to retain a record for future purposes. Callnote records your screen as you see it during the meeting.

How to Record a Zoom Meeting?

  1. Before the Zoom meeting in Callnote’s Recording Options Tab -> Zoom you need to select #Record video along with audio and #Always start recording (if you want to record Zoom calls automatically). *Callnote Pro users have an option to record video in high definition (this option should be selected in the Settings Tab).zoom recorder
  2. Please check if your default audio input and output devices are the same as you’re going to use while recording.
  3. And you’re good to go, no other set up needed. Launch Zoom desktop app, join in a conference and interact as you normally do. While you’re on a meeting and want to start the recording, just click the “Record” button on Callnote widget. A pause and stop buttons will then be shown when the recording starts.
  4. Please keep in mind that the meeting screen should be active (above all other screens) during call recording. If you switch to another tab during the meeting Callnote will stop recording.
  5. Please also make sure no other applications (eg. Skype, Hangouts, WebEx,etc.) are running while you’re about to start recording, as that might create an error.
  6. Once you stop the recording, the captured Zoom meeting will be saved in your Callnote Library Tab and locally on your computer.
    • If you want to export or save it on cloud storage you also have the options to do it. Go to Sharing Options Tab to set up the forwarding.
    • If you need to edit the recording, go to Library Tab and select either audio or video editing option. This blog post guides you through Library options.
    • If you need a text transcription of the recorded Zoom meeting go to Library Tab and select “Transcribe”.

How to Record Skype for Web and Google Meet Video Calls

Callnote enhances callers experience by adding the capability to record Skype for Web and Google Meet video and audio calls, shared screens and chats and also to take instant snapshots during the video calls. Options are available in Premium and Pro versions.

Before starting recording:

Prepare your computer before recording to avoid re-recording and save editing time. The truth is video calls aren’t always high quality. They get impacted by a lot of different factors including how smooth and fast your system is running, your internet connection, and your microphone and camera quality.

Before you hit record, there are a few simple steps you should take:

  • First, be mindful that it takes a lot of computer processing power to record video calls and run programs like Hangouts Meet and Skype for Web at the same time. To get the best results, turn off any unneeded application. It will help with overall performance of your machine.
  • Secondly, make sure all notifications are turned off.
  • Make sure your system audio gets recorded. Built-in mics work well for having a conversation, but they’ll disappoint in a recording. Consider using an external USB headset or microphone. If you have an external webcam, it may have a microphone built into it that will provide good enough audio.
  • Make sure your guest’ s audio to be recorded as good as it can be. Consider recommending the other side of the conversation a mic or headset described above.

Record Google Meet and Skype for Web calls:

  1. Click Recording options tab – Google Meet to customize your recording settings. Select #Record Video if needed. Select #Reduce black borders.. If needed.
  2. Click Recording options tab – Skype for web to customize your recording settings. Select #Record Video if needed. Select #Reduce black borders.. If neededSkype for web recording
  3. Launch Google Meet / Skype for Web in your PC or Mac browser and start or answer a call. Click the red Capture button on Callnote widget and start recording.
  4. Once the call is ended you may find the recording made in Callnote Library. Library Tab is the place where you can preview the recording, make edits in audio and video or order a transcription and generate subtitles. Library Tab
  • Select the needed recording and start refining. Callnote offers good choices for your post-editing. You can cut needless parts of the video, change audio stream or add some notes and titles to the recorded calls.
  • Directory button redirects you to the folder where all Callnote recordings’ files are saved on your computer. Callnote saves separate audio tracks for each guest in a Hangout Meet and Skype for Web conversation.
• Share Button allows you to forward video, audio, chat, snaps, transcription and subtitles files directly into your Dropbox account, Evernote, Google Drive, OneDrive, upload to YouTube or Facebook, and send in an email. Use the Sharing Options Tab menu to set up manual or automatic sharing options.

Track and Sense Emotions In Your Conversations with Callnote

We live in a world full of advanced technology: global communication is a screen share or dial-in away, anywhere and at any moment. It seems as though these advanced capabilities should make our lives easier, but something is missing. Every interaction is becoming more conversational, perceptual and relational. Despite the fact we are interacting with each other, something often gets lost in translation when we speak to each other digitally. How can we bring back the context, so our everyday exchanges do not get lost in translation?

Now with Callnote you can track and quantify emotions to get a complete understanding of verbal and nonverbal interaction.

Callnote emotion analysis tool

Emotive analytics is an interesting blend of psychology and technology. Our AI-based facial expression detection tool lumps human emotion into 4 main categories: Joy, Attention, Attitude and Contempt / Disgust. With facial emotion detection, we sense facial micro expressions by analyzing the relationship between points on the face. Simply defined, in the recorded video call we detect smiles, surprise, dislike, attention and drowsiness. So, you can see the conversation emotional results displayed in graphical format. The highly accurate machine learning algorithms have been trained and tested using Affectiva’s massive emotion data repository — the world’s largest emotion database with more than 6.5 million faces from 87 countries analyzed.

Analyze emotions feature is a FREE option for Premium and Pro users who are running Callnote on Windows PCsThere is no setup or integration required and you can use it with any video recording you made.

How does it work?

  1. Select a recorded video file in Library
  2. Choose Edit
  3. Click Analyze Emotions and then View Emotions

How to Use Transcription Speech-to-Text Service in Your Work

Do you conduct online meetings or interviews? Manage social media or tutoring online? If so, you might consider a few easy wins that take only a little effort when backed by automatic transcription.

  • Automated transcription service completely eliminates the need to backtrack and replay audio/video. The transcribed texts will outline exactly who is saying what.
  • Transcripts can really speed up a video editor’s workflow, as with a written document, editors can mark sections where revision must be completed all at once and then return to editing.
  • Transcriptions make your content accessible to everyone. If people on the team need assistance getting through the digital recordings, transcriptions will come in handy. Transcripts can be used to create training opportunities, review follow-up notes, or to come up with a list of action items that need to be communicated to a larger group.
  • Transcriptions transform content into something searchable. The best way to improve searchability is to have the entire text available.

If you’ve never given Callnote automated transcription speech-to-text service a try, there’s more good news: you get 30 minutes of free transcription one-time. Additional files/minutes are just $0.04 or $0.06 per minute (depending on the service provider). Here’s how you can automatically transcribe your next audio file in just a few minutes. We’ll walk you through the very simple three-step process.

  1. Select a file you need to transcribe.
Go to your Callnote Library and select a recorded audio or video file. Please make sure that your file has minimal background noise, no heavy accents, and ideally no more than one or two speakers. You may find it handy to do a little editing in your recording beforehand.
  2. Click Transcribe.
From here, using our transcription service is super easy. Select either IBM Watson or Google Speech service provider, select the language you conversation was made in, then click confirm in the dialog box. When the transcription is ready the Transcribe button will be changed to “Edit Transcription”.

automated transcription

You can typically expect your transcript to arrive within a few minutes, but the process can take longer depending on your file length.

3. Edit, save or share your transcript.

Within the Callnote editor, by clicking “Edit Transcription”, you can modify the transcribed text. After that, save the text, copy the draft and paste it to doc file or add this text as comments to your call recording to share with another person.
